The police have expressed concern in a letter to Lillestrøm municipality that a restaurant in the city has been used as a gathering place for individuals in a criminal network involved with drugs. This emerged after the police reviewed the restaurant's video surveillance from three evenings in October.
According to the police, the recordings showed that the restaurant stayed open after closing time for individuals with connections to criminal environments. The videos allegedly show guests buying and drinking alcohol, smoking indoors, and openly snorting cocaine. One of the guests was reportedly armed with brass knuckles.
Attorney Servet Yildiz Stêrk, representing the restaurant, believes the police letter contains unbalanced conclusions and inaccurate characterizations. He describes that the restaurant has faced a challenging security situation.
"On the contrary, the establishment, like several other dining places in Lillestrøm, has for a period experienced individuals whom the police themselves have identified as connected to well-known criminal environments entering the premises and making themselves comfortable there, despite the staff's clear attempts to dismiss them," says Stêrk.
He states that the staff has often been powerless in the face of threatening behavior, and out of fear of reprisals, they have requested that the incidents not be reported.
The restaurant now risks receiving eight demerit points for breaching the requirement of proper management, and one demerit point for alcohol being taken out of the premises. With twelve demerit points within two years, the municipality may revoke the alcohol license for one week.
The attorney emphasizes that throughout seven years of operation, the restaurant has never previously received any reactions from the authorities, and they will engage in dialogue with both the police and the municipality regarding the matter.
